A Special Message to our Patrons
October 7, 2009
To Our Valued Doug's Fish Fry Cortland, NY and Doug's ToGo! Mobile Operation Patrons:
Those that have visited our www.dougsfishfry.com - Cortland website and the Doug's ToGo! section may have noticed the mention of our planned contributions to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. During our November appearances at Matthew's Auto Planet we will be donating the normal percent of sales that are contributed to the sponsoring partner's selected charity to the PANCAN group. We are extremely grateful that Matthew's Auto Planet has agreed with this selection especially since November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.
Our refrigerated truck has a purple ribbon and the words "Fry Mom" on each door. Also "Fry Mom" appears on our Doug's Fish Fry shirts and throughout the Fry. Our mom, Carol Braun, is the "Fry Mom". She worked the registers on Fridays and got to know many of our customers. In January of 2007 she went to the Emergency Room at Auburn Memorial Hospital for severe back and abdominal pain. Mom had been diagnosed with gall bladder problems and thought she was having an attack. A suspicious spot was noted on her liver and pancreas. Subsequently she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that had spread to her liver. She underwent chemo treatments and as expected mounted a courageous battle to overcome this malady. She passed away on 11/8/2007. The "Fry Mom" is our way of remembering a very precious lady.
Thank you for your choice of Doug's when dining out and the subsequent support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's funding of research to hopefully defeat this insidious disease.
The Braun Family
